This just in: MIAMI MORE STRESSFUL THAN NEW YORK
Call your Uncle Morty and tell him to pack it in. An article on MSN.com gives the findings of a study done by Sperling's BestPlaces identifying the most and least stressful U.S. cities in 2003. According to the study, even in this post 9-11, color-coded reality we now inhabit, Miami still falls short of New York City. In fact, according to the survey, New York is only the 5th most stressful city in America.
The Big Apple was beat out for stressfulness by #2 Miami and (oddly) #1 Tacoma, Washington, in the study that compared rates of unemployment, divorce, violent and property crimes, suicide, and alcohol consumption, as well as commute time, self-reported "poor mental health," and number of cloudy days.
Despite having the longest commute time in the country and high rates of unemployment and violent crimes, the article notes, New Yorkers are not quitters--evidenced by one of the lowest suicide rates in the country.
On a personal note, I would like to add that the color scheme alone in Miami has always given me a migraine.
