My vocation is well chosen
Being a copywriter and creating an ad is a lot like being a man and creating a life. You're very active in the beginning, you know, to make sure it happens. In fact, in a lot of partnerships, the art director kind of just lays there during the concepting phase. (Though not in mine, in case mine is reading.) Once you've come up with the winning idea (fertilization has occurred), even if you are trying very hard to be heavily involved in the pre-production (Lamaze) and production (delivery) of the idea, the art director (mother), the producer (midwife), and the director (doctor) just sort of look at you the way everyone looks at an expectant dad in the delivery room. That sort of, isn't-it-cute-that-he-wants-to-help-but-everyone-knows-we-got-what-we-needed-from-him-nine-months-ago-so I wish-he'd-just-go-wait-outside look.
