The Trials of Van Occupanther

Hooray! Midlake are coming to New York this week and I have a ticket to see them. Lucky for me because I heard this morning at least two of the shows are sold out. This is probably because of the two bands they are opening for, as I gather they are more well known. But, I have a feeling that more than a few new Midlake fans will be born this weekend. So if you're going to see Sound Team or Cold War Kids, get there early and don't miss this amazing musical secret from Denton, Texas.

Their new album, The Trials of Van Occupanther, was released in the States Tuesday and I'm pretty sure I was one of the first 100 people in America to buy it. It's already doing great in Europe where it was released several weeks prior. Their sound on this one has changed a lot from the previous albums. While they used to draw references to Radiohead, they're now somewhere in the vicinity of Crosby, Stills and Nash meets the Beatles. In addition to Roscoe , which has already been a huge hit on the internet for the past 7 months, the second track entitled Bandits is quickly becoming a fave of mine. But don't take my word for it. Check them out all over the plizace.

Call Timothy "Speed" Levitch

  • This used to list Speed Levitch's phone number, but it doesn't work anymore. Now all I have for you is an old quote from his answering machine, which is pure poetry.
"I am lack of coordination being utilized. I am dysfunction gazing into the eyes of function. I am quieted, odd, menaced awkwardness dying at the altar of suave. They call me Levitch. Leave me a message."
