"Evidently Chickentown" by John Cooper Clarke

I had to find out who the amazing poet was at the beginning of that Joy Division video I posted earlier. (He also appears in the movie "Control.") Turns out his name is John Cooper Clarke and here is that poem, entitled, "Evidently Chickentown" in its entirety. I've also found another version that uses the word, "fuckin'" in place of "bloody." I believe that's the way it was recited in the movie. The "bloody" version seems to have been made into a dance mix and was used on an episode of the Sopranos.

Call Timothy "Speed" Levitch

  • This used to list Speed Levitch's phone number, but it doesn't work anymore. Now all I have for you is an old quote from his answering machine, which is pure poetry.
"I am lack of coordination being utilized. I am dysfunction gazing into the eyes of function. I am quieted, odd, menaced awkwardness dying at the altar of suave. They call me Levitch. Leave me a message."
  • Who?
